Fun fact Friday: Maltese is the only Arabic-derived language written with the Latin alphabet. It diverged from Arabic a long time ago (starting around 1090 with the Norman conquest of Malta) and began taking on aspects of both the Italian and Sicilian languages. It is categorized separately, therefore, from the other major modern Arabic variants.
