Oh god, I did it again. I looked at the comments on a HN post.

lol cabal got a shout-out on tech crunch (near the end):
"Meething, Cabal and Oasis are taking on video conferencing, team chat and social feeds from a decentralized standpoint, using the miracles of modern internet architecture to accomplish with distributed systems what once took centralized servers."

Is there a community in the fediverse excited about the newish protocol? Its meant to live halfway between http and gopher. Who should I be following?

I know there's a whole lot going on in the world out there, but... Can we all agree to just not Elon Musk anymore?

Holy crap, I'm back!

A couple months ago an attempted mastodon upgrade smushed my server and I couldn't figure out (and didn't have the time to figure out) what went wrong.

I finally fixed it! Hello again fediverse!

"Okay, here's the scenario. You are a crew member on a starship."
"Cool."
"Space travel is slow, you'll be stuck with your crewmates a long time."
"So we must get along."
"Yes. Communicate, listen, share limited resources."
"I can do that. What's the starship called?"
"Earth."

My Mastodon instance is screwed up, but it's only the front end. So I can still toot from a client like Fediverse!

Since people sometimes think direct action just means a protest or squatting an abandoned building. Here are other groups you can form and do actions with:

citizen assembly
community council
workers council
childcare collective
trade union
industrial union
tenant union
communal agriculture
cooperative housing
mutual aid network
disaster relief network
community-operated energy
horizontal education network
community-run health clinic
community repair network
cop watch
peace circle

@neauoire have you come across a good list of synths that people are using orca with? My laptop doesn't have the umph for VCV Rack, and pilot is nice but I'm looking for a bit more control. Supercollider scares me but might be the best option?

Is now a good time to start re-reading The Stand, do people think? Maybe Station Eleven?

@neauoire When you started orca-c, did you think at all about using rust?

Only ask because I was perusing code and found "returns UINT_MAX in case of error" and rust's error handling is just so nice. :)

Walked into the credit union today with the pile of checks from pledged members, and deposited $24,000 as the starting funds for the Vermont #RealEstateCoop. More is coming soon, and hopefully we'll collectively own our first property (a commercial condo that will hopefully be the future home of a start-up #coop) within a month or two...

The expectation of web apps being free just moved the costs elsewhere. Now we're paying for the previous generation's idealism -- content creators struggling to monetize, and intractable advertising-based surveillance business models.

Things from the 1920s we should bring back in the 2020s...

Anarcho-syndicalism...

Imagine if Amazon was run as a cooperative, and the money generated by the workers went to them instead. Amazon could literally hire 10 times as many people, and have each employee work 1/2 a day a week while getting the same salary they get now. The only reason that's not happening is because a guy named Jeff takes the lion share of the profits.

Pet peeve for today: people who point the slide-advancing-clicker device at the screen showing the projection instead of the computer that needs to receive the IR signal.

Every once in a while something reminds me that, canonically, The Chronicles of Narnia are a Sherlock Holmes fan fiction
