Tired: learning Dvorak to improve typing efficiency
Wired: Creating a conlang with a letter distribution that makes QWERTY the most efficient layout

hey guys? guys? you think maybe creating this single program that has to do literally everything from implementing a filesystem to 3 different virtual machines to parsers for god knows how many file formats may have been an inherently bad idea that would inevitably concentrate power within the like 3 organizations on the planet that can actually afford to maintain this kind of clusterfuck?

For anyone who fancied the #Librem Five but are fed up with the developers politics, or found the price to be way too high, here is something that might be interesting for you: liliputing.com/2019/06/pinepho #PinePhone #Pine64

The stated rationale for Google's disabling ad blockers in Chrome is exactly why humans will not solve climate change: people are incapable of accepting any perceived diminishing of their quality of life.

Reminder:

Strikes and protests are inconvenient and loud and costly and a bit of an imposition on the rest of us

This is on purpose

It's *supposed* to be this way

If you are inconvenienced, it's working

Support the workers anyway

Man, I missed some fedidrama last night! I can only barely parse out what happened from the backscroll on my feed!

So Gab has decided that their own code that they spent $5M of investor money developing is so unsalvageably bad that they're going to use Mastodon's code instead, with the added bonus of leeching off of our apps (with Gab apps being banned from app stores)

This is an early warning to fellow admins to be vigilant and domain-block them on sight, when/if they appear (unconfirmed whether they intend to federate), and to app devs to consider if blocking Gab's domains from their app is necessary.

What might a future without the big look like? How can we combine cheap computing like @Raspberry_Pi with new protocols like @dat_project, @IPFSbot, ActivityPub, and Secure Scuttlebutt to build portable servers?

Pushed some major updates to the #Spritely Crystal docs: gitlab.com/spritely/crystal/bl
- Our characters learn how different crystal registries can be synced to have the same revisions
- Our characters discover all the "fun" that is version conflicts.

Coming up soon:
- We discover how the problems described in this document are very general
- In fact, the existing fediverse already has them!
- We'll learn more about the CAP theorem and the tradeoffs we can make

@dawnpaladin Jeff Bezos is NOT #solarpunk and neither are his plans to abandon Earth and the mass of humanity so that he can live in an elite space community.

If you like the vibes of some futuristic art, that's fine, but don't you dare fucking call the plans for consuming the Earth and running away from the mess 'solarpunk.'

@sir Be honest now... are you keeping a list of all the sr,ht users that upload rust code?

Who's about to travel internationally and has done basically no opsec....

This guyyyyy.....

"Difficulty" as a person with ADD:
- Learning about obscure programming concepts by reading old papers: "This is fun!"
- Unearthing old peer-to-peer architecture stuff and documenting it: "It's tough but I like it!"
- Working on decentralized system and programming language design: "I could do it for days!"
- Submitting an invoice so I can get paid: "Oh my god this is the hardest task ever how could anyone ever do something so difficult"

@staltz are you aware of a Manyverse bug causing instant crash on app start? Pixel 2, Android 9.

Ugh, I love Purism's goals and am looking forward to my Librem 5 whenever it's ready, but the roll out of Librem One, particularly the handling of giving credit to the forked projects, has been completely botched. It's cost them a ton of trust in the very communities where it should be highest.

Why hello first gin and tonic of the season. Its great to see you as well!

@sir
Question on sr.ht workflow (signed up a couple days ago, liking it!): When making changes to your own project, do you just `git push` or do you go through the email workflow as well?

NEVER forget about this, buddies. Not one step back.
