The sheer force of will it takes some days to keep a straight face and respond "fine!" when someone greets you with "How are you doing?".
@npd Agreed on both counts. As it stands I always feel guilty thinking about answering "not well". I feel like I'm putting a burden on the other person somehow.
@ross I dream that one day we'll get to the point in society where one can answer that question honestly, even with a negative affect, and have that welcomed.
Or, as an intermediate step, be allowed to answer "not well" and have the conversation continue on just as quickly. (That was a situation I appreciated about November-December 2016.)
